The Basics
You’ll have to make a few important decisions when applying for a TEDx license. It’s the first step in deciding the kind of experience you’d like to shape for your event.
Name your event
All TEDx event names follow the same convention: a name beginning with TEDx, followed by a location-based descriptor such as the name of your city, school, neighborhood, local landmark or street (e.g., TEDxSydney, TEDxThames, TEDxUSC).

Choose a tentative date for your event
You’ll want to keep two things in mind when picking the date of your event. First, does the date conflict with any other TEDx events in or close to your location? You can find out by searching for TEDx events in your area. Also, does the date give you enough time to plan the event, and does it give your speakers enough time to construct and rehearse their talks? You’ll need a minimum of three months to organize your event after your license is approved. Note that TEDx event plans take at least eight weeks to review and approve — great events aren’t built in a day!
Brainstorm some ideas for your program
We want to know more about what you’re interested in including in your event. TEDx events should be multidisciplinary and broad, to address a variety of topics. They should not focus all on one subject area. What are some topics, questions and ideas you’re itching to share with your audience?
Consider example speakers
Tell us more about what they’re doing that’s great, rather than who they are. Is there someone in your community who has an incredible idea or perspective you think the world should see? Is there a person you know of who is doing amazing work, but is largely unrecognized?
Decide which TED Talks you’d like to show 决定你要展示哪些TED Talks
Our application asks which TED Talk videos you’d like to show at your TEDx event. You can change your mind later, but we’d like to know what kind of talks you want to share with your audience.
Decide on a theme (or don’t!)
A theme is not a topic, like “medicine,” or “entrepreneurship” but a broader area of exploration, like “Inspired by nature.” You’re not required to decide on one right away.
Pick your event type
TEDx events have different “types,” or event categories, and you’ll need to choose one when you apply for a license. You’ll most likely apply for a “Standard” event type. But don’t worry – you’ll learn a lot more about event types in the next section.
